Presentations and Seminars

Presentations: the list of presentation topics (usually in the form of a debating proposition) and the current state of bookings for presentations is here.  To make a booking, please email me, ordering by topic number and indicating (when applicable) whether you will be arguing the "pro" side or the "con" side of the debating proposition.


Schedule of seminars (click on dates to get the assignments and reading lists for the seminar):

September 14  - Introduction and administrative matters; section 2(b) (freedom of expression) and section 1 (justification).

September 21 -  Section 15 (equality rights) and section 1 (justification). 

September 28 - Criminal law rights.  

October 5 - Practice and procedure day.  A lecture on civil procedure and technical bars in constitutional cases.  Then a lecture on written advocacy.  A precedent book will be made available. 

October 12  -  Section 7 (rights to life, liberty and security of the person; principles of fundamental justice).  Mooters: final date to choose a mooting problem and assemble into teams.  Paper-writers: you must submit your proposed topic for approval by the instructor by today.

October 19 -  The unwritten constitutional principles and Quebec secession. 

October 22 - Paper-writers: 3-5 page outlines of your paper are due today.

October 26 - No class.  Work on moots and papers.  

November 2 -   The rights of aboriginal peoples.  

November 12 - Mooters: Appellants' factums due by midnight today.

November 9 - no class.  Work on moots and papers. 

November 16 - Administrative law / Division of powers.  

November 19 - Mooters: Respondents' factums due by midnight today.

November 21, 26 - possible dates for moots

November 23 - Charter remedies.  

November 30 -  Judicial appointment / constitutional amendment.  Paper-writers: your paper is due December 7.
